Keep your immune system strong with elderberry elixir – a sweetened aromatic concoction with anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Filled with elderberries, roots, herbs and spices this elixir is a powerhouse at boosting the immune system, which in turn maintains body strength and energy. It comes together in a snap, stores in the cupboard and lasts for weeks.
Elderberry Elixir Recipe
INGREDIENTS
*1 package of Elderberry Ginger OR Elderberry Hibiscus Tea
*1 ½ cups of pure water, freshly boiled
*½ cup raw honey
*¼ cup high quality brandy
INSTRUCTIONS
*Empty 1 package of elderberry tea into a heat proof container and pour over 1 ½ cups of freshly boiled water.
*Cover and let steep at least 1 hour. The longer the steep the more benefits you extract from the elderberries, spices and herbs.
*Strain into a small sauce pot (pressing on solids to extract all the goodness, then compost the pulp)
*Warm the elderberry extraction over stove until hot. Remove from heat and stir in honey and brandy.
*Pour into a sterilized jar with lid and set in a cool, dark place (fridge is fine too)
*Elixir will keep for several weeks
TIPS
*I prefer the above ratio of water to honey but for a thicker, sweeter elixir, reduce water to 1 cup.
*Suggestion: I take 1-2 teaspoons of elixir preventatively, and 1-2 tablespoons if I’m feeling under the weather.
*Add 1-2 tablespoons of elixir to a mug and fill with freshly boiled water for a soothing bedtime tea.
